FEMA Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Course Code: L-273 Course Description: This course is designed to provide an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance. The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance. Why take this course: This course is offered a few times a year at FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in Emmitsburg, MD. Through assistance from FEMA Region III, MDE and the DNR's Chesapeake & Coastal Service, this course is being offered on the Eastern Shore to provide local jurisdictions with the training needed to maintain a strong floodplain management program in their community. This course is excellent preparation for the Certified Floodplain Manager Exam. Instructors:
Target Audience: Local government officials responsible for administering local floodplain management ordinances (ex. planners, code enforcement officers, building officials, etc) are encouraged to attend.
