This 1-day training is for Trust Fund applicants to learn how to calculate nutrient and sediment reductions for their proposed projects.

Cost effectiveness is one of the main factors used to select projects for funding through the Chesapeake & Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund. Cost effectiveness is determined by comparing the cost of the project with the nutrient and sediment reductions it will achieve.

The Dept of Natural Resources uses a reduction calculation methodology that is consistent with the Chesapeake Bay Program Watershed model, and uses the same land uses, loading rates and BMP reduction credits. To ensure that all projects are evaluated using the same methods, DNR has partnered with Chesapeake Commons to develop an online calculator for the most commonly implemented projects. In addition, DNR previously developed Excel calculator tools that can be used to determine reductions for Bay-Model approved practices.

This training will provide hands-on instruction on how to use both tools with additional time to work one-on-one with the instructors. Participants will also have the opportunity to use the tools to calculate reductions for projects they will be proposing to the Trust Fund for FY19 funding.

This training was developed through a partnership with DNR's Chesapeake & Coastal Service and Chesapeake Commons.
